Play Surfaces
Maintenance Guide
Rubber Stone™ Play Surfaces are high caliber systems designed to deliver superior
performance under the most demanding of circumstances. In order to extend the life
of your system, reasonable care and maintenance must be provided. Standard
required procedures are as follows:
Cleaning
- Avoid using a broom.
- For occasional cleaning, use a blower or water hose.
- Cleaners must have a neutral pH and be approved for use.
- Once a year, pressure wash the surface. 2000 – 4,000 PSI are
recommended.

DO NOT exceed 4,000 PSI. Maintain a distance of 6” or
more from the surface.
- Use only potable and mineral-free water.
- Wipe up all spills immediately.
- Consult Rubber Stone™ before initial cleaning.
Equipment
- Equipment must be lifted or carried over the play surface; never drag
anything over the surface. Use crossing mats to protect the surface
when moving equipment.
- Do not allow spiked shoes or other sharp objects on the play surface.
Vehicular Traffic
- Limit to lightweight mowers and lightweight maintenance equipment.
- Mowers must be operated at maximum height.
- All equipment must cross on paths protected by plywood.
- Before entering the play surface area, inspect vehicles for leaks. Avoid
spillage of oil, fuel, or other fluids.
- Do not turn steering wheel while vehicle is at a standstill.
- Avoid lurching starts.
- Avoid forceful use of the brakes.
Vegetation
- Ensure that no chemicals such as herbicides or fertilizers come in
contact with the play surface. Rinse any areas of accidental contact
immediately with water.
- Maintain a 6” vegetation-free zone around the play surface at all times.
A water-soluble herbicide such as glyphosate may be used. Do not
spray the play surface.

Do not use weed eaters near the play surfaces.
Insects
- If infestations of ants or other insects become apparent, a powder
insecticide may be used. Consult Rubber Stone™ for approval.
Other
- Do not allow pets or wheeled vehicles such as bikes or strollers on the
play surface.
- Never store equipment or other items on the play surface.
- Never allow items of significant weight to sit on the play surface.
- Distribute the weight of heavy point loads as evenly as possible.
- In extremely hot weather, use extra care to protect your play surface.
Extreme heat can soften rubber surfaces and make them susceptible to
damage from heavy weights.

Misting with water on hot days is
recommended.

Follow the above guidelines to extend the life of your Rubber Stone™ Play Surface.
