Step 1: Surface Preparation

Surface preparation is EXTREMELY important. Any stains or contaminants that remain during the re-roll process will be coated
with RUBBER STONE BINDER and sealed-in to the Rubber Stone surface!

Removing stains from gasoline, oil, grease, etc.

Spray stain with degreaser, wait 5-10 minutes, spray stain again and scrub with firm-bristled brush as required. Absorb as much contaminant and cleaner as possible with rag or cloth, then dispose. Rinse with water; repeat as necessary.
DO NOT scrub with metal brush.
If degreaser does not effectively remove the stain, a hand-held steam cleaner may also be used. Please ensure you comply with all of the safety warnings from the manufacturer of the machine, and absorb as much contaminant as possible with a rag or cloth as noted above.

Removing chewing gum, tree sap, etc.

Spray affected area with Goof Off® Heavy Duty Spot Remover, wait 5-10 minutes, then scrub with firm- bristled brush as necessary. Rinse with water under medium pressure from garden sprayer or equivalent. A high- pressure washer may also be used for rinsing. Repeat as necessary.
The existing Rubber Stone surface must be thoroughly washed. We recommend that the Rubber Stone surface be
power-washed with a high-pressure-washer. A minimum pressure of 3000 PSI is required.
The existing Rubber Stone surface must be completely dry before attempting a re-roll application.
Do not attempt a re-roll of Rubber Stone unless the area has been free of moisture for 48 hours.
After application, the re-roll must remain free of moisture for 24 hours.

Step 2: Check Your Local Weather Conditions

Binding agents can have an extremely negative reaction to moisture, so it is imperative that your DIY re-roll be free of rain and other moisture sources (including overspray from lawn irrigation) during the curing process.
A good rule of thumb is to ensure the binder will not come in contact with water for 24 hours after application.
The curing speed of binder accelerates on hot days. When the ambient temperature reaches 30°C (86°F) your working time can drop to 5-7 minutes.
Best results occur at an ambient temperature of 25°C (77°F).

Step 3: PUT BARRIERS AROUND YOUR APPLICATION AREA

This is also an EXTREMELY important part of a DIY re-roll. Use whatever items you have available to ensure that pets and individuals keep away from your wet binder surface until it has completely cured.
Caution tape is commonly used for this purpose, however fencing has proven to be the most effective against animals.

Step 4: Mark-Off the Coverage Area

Each gallon of RUBBER STONE BINDER, once diluted with 20% solvent, will cover approximately 300 sq. ft.
Measure your application area and divide it into 100 sq. ft. sections, then mark each section with masking tape or painter's tape.
This will help ensure you apply the RUBBER STONE BINDER evenly to each area.

Step 5: Setup your Mixing Station & Tools

Find an area to use as a “re-roll station” for your RUBBER STONE BINDER. DO NOT prepare materials on the application area, as accidental spills may create opaque areas that will remain visible. Be sure to setup in an area where drips or mild spills will not damage your property.

Step 6: Mix Your First Batch of RUBBER STONE BINDER

MATERIAL MUST BE ROLLED-OUT COMPLETELY WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF EXPOSURE TO AIR.

  1. Assemble the roller, cage and handle.
  2. Bend the roller screen so it fits comfortably on the inside of the mixing pail, or use a paint tray.
  3. Set out the materials on a protective surface such as a tarp or sheet of plastic, then put on rubber gloves and safety glasses.
  4. Pour 1 quart (or 1 litre) of RUBBER STONE BINDER into a pail. Add 6 ounces (or 175 ml) of xylene or acetone (xylene is preferable).
  5. Stir for 1 minute. Be sure to scrape the edges of the mixing pail to ensure all materials are mixed evenly.

RUBBER STONE BINDER CAN CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS, SKIN IRRITATION, AND AGGRAVATE ECZEMA OR OTHER SKIN CONDITIONS. AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN & EYES. SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIC REACTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER AND FOLLOW HIS/HER INSTRUCTIONS.

THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS ISOCYANATES. IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO TAKE AN ANTI-HISTAMINE, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DO NOT DRIVE OR OPERATE MACHINERY AS IT MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS.

Step 7: Apply the Mixed RUBBER STONE BINDER

Remove the mixing stick from the pail and set it aside. Hang the roller screen on the inside edge of the pail, then begin applying binder according to the directions below:
1. Use the paintbrush to paint binder along edges that require extra care, for example:
  1. near the house
  2. around railings
  3. near flower beds
  4. etc.
This must be done quickly, but carefully.  Do not forget that the remaining binder in the pail is curing.
2. Next, dip the roller in the mixing bucket.
3. Try to ensure the roller is completely coated with binder.
4. Roll the roller on the roller- screen to remove any excessive amounts of binder and ensure the roller is coated evenly.
5. Roll the binder onto the existing Rubber Stone surface, making sure the roller is always moving and does not remain still in any particular area. The roller must continually be in motion, even before it touches the existing surface.
6. Roll across all parts of the existing Rubber Stone surface 2-3 times, each at a different angle to ensure that no areas are left uncoated.
7. Repeat as necessary. Pour more binder onto the tray as required.
Do not put on a thick coat or it will look opaque.
Your roller must be in motion at all times. Make sure that your roller is in motion BEFORE it touches the existing Rubber Stone surface.
Areas where your roller stands motionless for even a short period of time may be coated with excess binder. These areas may look opaque after curing.
If your roller is “bumping” along as you apply the binder, it may not be evenly coated with binder. Dip it in the mixing pail again and roll it onto the roller-screen to ensure even coverage.

Step 8: Cleanup

RUBBER STONE BINDER is flammable, and hazardous to plant and marine life in its uncured state.
The easiest method of disposal is to allow the remaining material (and all materials on the roller, paint brush, etc.). to cure within the mixing pail in a safe area.
DO NOT allow more than 2 quarts (or 2 litres) of mixed material to cure in a single container as this may generate excessive heat, smoke, etc.
DO NOT inhale smoke or other vapors produced by curing materials.
RUBBER STONE BINDER that has fully cured is no longer hazardous and can be disposed of with other household waste. However, please consult the federal, state, and local regulations in your area to ensure you dispose of the remaining materials properly.
Should you wish to save the roller cage or roller screen, simply clean them thoroughly with solvent (avoiding contact with skin and eyes) and allow them to dry.
